What is EU Inc?
EU Inc (European Company) is a new type of legal entity formally proposed by the European Commission on March 18, 2026. It is known as the "28th Regime" because it does not replace the existing 27 national laws, but exists as a parallel, EU-wide alternative.
Legal Nature
The essence of EU Inc is its supranationality. Established via an EU Regulation, it is directly applicable in all Member States, which means:
-
Automatic Recognition Once registered, the entity is automatically recognized as a legal person in all 27 Member States without per-country certification.
-
Unified Rules From capital structure to governance models, all countries follow the same rules, eliminating cross-border legal friction.
Why it matters for Startups?
Before EU Inc, European startups were often forced to set up multiple subsidiaries as they scaled, each involving expensive local lawyers, translations, and notaries. EU Inc allows founders to operate as a "Single Legal Entity" across the entire Single Market, compressing months of expansion work into days.
